Manu was the founder of the human race according to Indian mythology. The Lawbook of Manu has laws that dealt with proper moral behavior and social relationships. Although the Lawbook of Manu was written after the Vedic age, it reflected off of the earlier society which was ruled under Aryan influence. The Lawbook of Manu stated that men treat women with honor and respect, but also said that women remain subject to the guidance of the men in their lives such as their fathers and their husbands. The Lawbook also stated that the most important job of a women were to take care of children and to maintain clean homes for their families.
